Elizabeth Gilbert wrote a letter to her fear (Big Magic, pages 25 and 26), which she characterized as a third wheel on a road trip on which Liz and her creativity were going. This letter ended with a firm reminder that it wouldn’t be allowed a vote. It wouldn’t be allowed to touch the road maps, suggest detours, fiddle with the temperature, or touch the radio. Above all else, fear was absolutely forbidden to drive.
